@4SPACE POLICE - LATEST NEWS
@3==========================
@1
Hi Folks,
Here's the latest Stop-Press news about Gerry Anderson's forthcoming
live-action sci-fi show "@5Space Police@1".
The most important development is that due to some 'legal
complications', the title of the series has been changed, so "Space
Police" is no more.
The show is now named "@5SPACE PRECINCT@1".
The series is now firmly in production as 24 one-hour T.V. episodes,
on a closed set at Pinewood Studios, the former home of "UFO" and
"Space:1999". Special effects photography commenced April 4th, while
principal photography for the opening episode, entitled "Double Duty",
began on May 9th. The shooting schedule is approximately two weeks per
episode, so production on the entire series is expected to continue for
the next 12 months. The budget has actually been increased, and is now
$30 million total, which I am informed is about 20.6 million ......
860,000 per episode !
To produce the show, a new company has been formed called Space
Productions Ltd., which is a joint venture between Gerry Anderson
Productions and Mentorn Films. Gerry and Executive Producer Tom
Gutteridge are said to be hopeful that if the first series is
successful, there will be a further three seasons of "Space Precinct",
at an estimated total cost of some $120 million (80 million).
"Space Precinct" follows the investigations of two New York street cops
Chuck Brogan and his partner Eddie Haldane, who are assigned on an
exchange programme to a space station precinct house orbiting the planet
Altor (no longer "Alitorp" as previously reported). There, they work
alongside alien and human police officers, among them Euro Police
Officer Jane Castle, and 'Creon' and 'Tarn' Officers. The lead role as
Lt. Chuck Brogan has been given to American actor Ted Shackleford, best
known as J.R. and Bobby's brother, Gary Ewing, in U.S. soaps 'Dallas'
and 'Knot's Landing'. Other actors/actresses are not known at this time.
Numerous directors have been assigned to the series, between them having
such items as 'The Avengers','The Persuaders!', 'The Zoo Gang', 'The New
Avengers' and five James Bond films to their collective credits. Also,
many well-known names from behind the scenes of Gerry Anderson's
previous work are involved in "Space Precinct" in visual effects,
special effects, etc.
Initial episodes are expected to be screened in the U.S. in Autumn this
year, and on British T.V. in January 1995, unfortunately only on Sky
One. The first 'terrestrial' U.K. network showing is expected to be on
BBC1 around Autumn 1995. :-(
